There’s Good News and Bad News.

Generally speaking, that is usually the way things are.  In the latest reporting year of 2017 did you know that violent crime in California was up 1.5%, BUT the levels are comparable to the late 1960’s?  The violent crime rate in the Big Bear State has decreased substantially in the last 30 years and that’s good news!

The Public Policy Institute of California puts it into perspective.  Through 2017 59% of reported violent crimes in California were aggravated assaults, 32% were robberies, 8% were rapes, and 1% were homicides.  Perhaps none of this means much to you…unless you or a loved one has been detained on one of these charges in 2020.

Now, it gets really personal!  If you or anyone you care about is accused of a violent crime in the greater San Jose area please call on me.  I am San Jose criminal defense attorney William Chestnut.  You can call me Bill, but just call me.  Personally, I thought it was a crime that The Sharks let Joe Pavelski get away!  My number is (408) 298-6990.

Why Does Summertime Bring out the Worst in Some People?

Maybe it’s the heat, maybe it’s too much time on some people’s hands, whatever it is there is evidence that violent crime is on the rise in the Summer.  Remember this…always, always contact a lawyer if you are suspected of or have been arrested on the suspicion of having committed a violent crime in California!

It may be a charge of assault with or without a weapon.  Perhaps the charge is rape which has received heightened awareness these days.  There are weapons charges of different types carrying a variety of penalties.  Then there is always theft and robbery and all of the different machinations that those two charges entail.

For well over 40 years William Chestnut, a San Jose Criminal Defense Attorney has defended those accused of a violent crime throughout California.  He has handled just about every type of criminal case during that time.  Call Bill immediately if you or a loved one has been accused of a violent crime at (408) 298-6990.

Violent Crime Charges in California.

A conviction for a violent crime in this state carries dire consequences.  We don’t want to put the fear of God into you, on the other hand we do.  The first thing to remember at the point of arrest is…keep your mouth shut!  There is nothing that you can say at this moment that will do you any good later on.  Please don’t feel the need to explain yourself at this time.

There are many levels of violent crime in California.  Among them are –

1.  Sexual assault (the classic “he said, she said)
2.  Carrying weapons
3.  Robbery (with a weapon)
4.  Theft (without one)
5.  Destruction of property may even fall into this category

We said to keep your mouth shut, but there is one thing that you or a loved one must do.  You need to find the best attorney to defend you.  That is why people in the area turn to San Jose violent crime defense attorney William Chestnut.  For more than four decades Bill has been protecting the rights of the accused.  Call him today at (408) 298-6990.

What to do if you are accused of a Violent Crime.

Being accused of a violent crime in the state of California is a life-altering experience.  You need to get on top of the issue immediately.  If you have a friend or loved one that has been accused of a crime such as assault, sexual assault, rape, weapons charges, robbery or other related serious acts of violence you need to acquire the best defense possible right away.

Look for an attorney in the Golden Bear state that has been defending accused violent acts for decades.  DO NOT speak to the police even if you feel that what you say defends your innocence.  You must consult an attorney.  In this case “Silence is definitely golden”!  Each case of violent crime is different.  Assault is not treated the same way as rape which is not handled the same way as armed robbery.

DO NOT gamble with the freedom of a friend or loved one.  Attorney William Chestnut has been defending Californians accused of violent crimes for well over 30 years.  A skilled criminal defense lawyer in San Jose such as Bill Chestnut may help you avoid conviction or perhaps plead guilty to a lesser charge.  Make an appointment to see him at his new San Jose office at 4020 Moorpark Ave. Suite 214 by calling him today at (408) 298-6990.
